LaBeouf Confirmed In Transformers

Variety confirmed a report that Shia LaBeouf will star in Michael Bay's upcoming big-budget action movie The Transformers: The Movie.

LaBeouf is in final negotiations to play a lead role in the DreamWorks/Paramount live-action production. Shooting starts in late May, with a July 4, 2007, premiere envisioned.

Budgeted well north of $100 million, Transformers will star LaBeouf as the unlikely hero Sam in a story based on the comic book, cartoon and Hasbro toy line that was popular in the 1980s. The movie centers on the central saga of the Autobots vs. the Decepticons. The rest of the cast is expected to be finalized shortly.

Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura are producing the film, with Steven Spielberg and Hasbro's Brian Goldner executive-producing. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci penned the screenplay.

I'll have to check out Alley's link tonight from home since my work comp's graphics are not very good.

I'm definately looking forward to the Live movie though. OP was at the panel in San Diego last year when they were promoting it so he may have some more info. What would have been really nice would have been if it came out last year since the 1985 move took place in 2005. Anyway, it should be a pretty cool movie. Hopefully it will be playing at the theater next to Fuddruckers!

I'm excited about it for sure. At Comic-Con last year they had a showcase with the technology they used for it and a little information about it. Even though Michael Bay is directing it, Steven Spielberg is the person producing it. I don't know if that's a good thing or not yet heh.

BUT what I am excited about is Comic Con this year - and it's only 3 or 4 months away! This year's big promotional 'comic' will be the Transformers Movie - or so they said last year. I'm totally stoked! I'll be sure to give everyone a full report - and maybe I'll see people there this year

ComicCon is in San Diego, CA at the Convention Center. This year I believe it starts on July 20th and ends on the 23rd. Not fully sure, I just know it's coming up and hopefully I'll be able to make it. The panel from last year promised that this year would have a huge section regarding the movie since both it and Spiderman 3 are the big summer blockbusters to comic lovers next year.

I just saw the trailer. Clearly, they're not keeping with the origin story of the comics.

I didn't think much of the teaser trailer. I really hope this is not a sign of what they have planned for teh movie.

Fortunately the Superman:returns teaser trailer looked pretty bad too and everything since has looked cool.

They did state at ComicCon that Peter Cullen will be the voice of Optimus Prime (he was the original voice in the 80s).

No other voices are known at this time, and would be determined in post-production.

There are also some announced changes from the traditional cartoon:

1) Optimus Prime will be different colors: Supposedly white and blue with yellow stripes. Similar to the colors of Optimal Optimus in Beast Wars.

2) Optimus Prime will have his face guard removed. If you've ever seen Optimal Optimus from Beast Wars, that is what he will look more like.

3) Megatron will transform into a tank instead of a gun to make more proportional sense with his transformation. From this, Prime and Megatron will be the same height.

4) Starscream will be taller to fit his proportion to being a jet.

5) Bumble Bee will no longer be a Volks Wagon bug -instead he's going to be a Camarro.

6) Given 3, there's some speculation about what they're going to do with characters like Soundwave, Ravage, and Rumble who are not proportionate. It is possible they may simply not be included in the movie.
