I was almost in tears watching the news. Nealyn was one of about 5 people I called with "turn on the news!"...
Then when my own kids were safe in bed, my wife and I sat down to
watch the news conference by her father....and my own blood went
to boil.....
Never, never, never, if our places were reversed, can I imagine myself doing what that jerk did. Rather than crying, laughing, hugging, being emotional and happy...rather than do that, he, within 10 seconds of holding the press conference, coldly turned it into a political grandstanding move. He made a political speech about passing the Amber Alert law. He named members of Congress who have held up the bill. The man gave such a cold speech that I questioned how much he loved his daughter. If you've seen the house they live in, you know he's loaded. And that often means political ties. You could almost figure that he might even know half the members of Congress he was naming.
Such a speech wouldn't be out of the question in a day, or 2 days, when the joy of finding her has simmered and the tough questions begin. But what he did, truly made me question how a father could put political agendas at the top of the list of things to talk about, when his daughter has been just returned to him, beyond all hope.
