I will give the faction thing a bash. Each city has its own faction...
The folks in Shadowhaven don't seem to care much about race or faction stuff when you get there. They are dubious with about everyone for starters, though I have never heard of anyone being KOS at the beginning in SH. Faction in SH is easy to adjust -- there are "mail quests" to raise faction in SH which is a good idea if you want to buy and sell with the vendors there. Shadowhaven is split up into the various Houses in sections of the town. For those of you who don't know, the city factions are broken up like this:
1) Fordel Quarter (House of Fordel): That's the area in the 'upper' part of the city...mostly human/barbarian, and the landscape is alot of 'dirt gardens'
2) Short & Stout Quarter (House of Stout): Dwarves, Halflings, Gnomes...the midgets. That's the section of town where all these guys hang out.
3) Midst Quarter (House of Midst): Entered through the West Wall of Fordel Quarter (directly opposite the huge gates leading to Paludal Caverns), this area is filled with casters and monks. Have to walk a thin stone bridge to get to them.
4) Commons (Traders of the Haven): These are the guys that hang out in the Bazaar and the middle area of Shadowhaven, around the port pad to the Nexus. This is the 'free trading zone' for the city.
5) Defenders of the Haven (have titles like 'Lookout' 'Defender' and 'Incantor'): These are the guards of the different quarters of the city.
This link has the SH faction quests listed and linked - take your pick:

Steaon's Deliveries is easy - start in a SH shop by the Nexus portal and run back and forth to the Bazaar. It's doubly easy if you can gate; even without you can move your SH faction up in relatively short order with three or four repetitions. Smuggler Reports is another quick one involving running the mail to Lt. Broansas in Dawnshroud Peaks over past the Sanctus Seru zoneline.
The other cities of Luclin make faction fairly simple - just go kill the nuisance mobs in adjacent zones, occasionally turning in common loot items for extra faction. In Sanctus Seru its the Zelniac meat quest, in Shar Vahl its the Loda Kai, and in Katta its the Vampires.
Katta Castellum and Sanctus Seru are opposing cities on opposite ends of Luclin. A political rift put them on opposite sides (those darn attempted assassinations!) and big faction hits by killing people in one city generally
messes up faction there while raising faction in the other. Katta quests can be found at
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/qsea ... l?zone=145 although I have done none of them myself. If I remember right the Twilight Sea quest armor comes mostly from people on Katta faction, so if you are chasing TS quest armor you might want to keep that in mind.
Shar Vahl
The Shar Vahl quest list is here
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/qsea ... l?zone=155 but I only adjusted Shar Vahl faction by killing the Loda Kai in Shadeweaver's Thicket. Easy mobs as a rule, although I was 40+ when I passed through.
Sanctus Seru
Killing Zelniacs in DSP is doubly good - you can kill them (ie FEAR KITE them) for pretty good EXP in the 20's-30's and turn in the meat to adjust faction in SS. There is a sword quest attached to the meat quest, but its better to ignore that part - bad risk/reward there). The Search for Tergus Raslin is a decent quest, and it gives a pretty fair no-drop sword that my tank keeps for corpse runs. Grab a druid pal and tank and go whack that vampire guy in Twilight Sea.
When in doubt refer to the master list of your specific faction:

I am certainly no faction master! Good luck!
