I was trying to switch out my mic/speakers for a headset last night. Computer went dead.

A knowledgeable techy coworker said it sounds like static may knocked out my power supply. I'm going to check into it after work.

Please keep your fingers crossed that that is all it is.

Did you hear a popping sound or notice any funny smells coming from your computer? Particularly an ozone smell? You can have a power supply failure without them, but if you've had either of those things it's almost certainly the power supply. Believe me, I've gone though 4-5 over the last 5 years (my wife's last desktop at the things like candy for some reason) so I know some of the warning signs.

I thought it was starting to reboot, but then it just died. I don't remember a pop and I know there wasn't an ozone smell. I'm really hoping it's something simple, and that it didn't do peripheral damage.
