Wayfarers of Veeshan

The last two days I have had horrible lag spikes, lasting about 30-45 seconds, every 2-3 minutes. It drops from 100% down to about 82% - plenty of time for my groupmates to die. I've never had these before. I haven't done anything new to my computer. A couple of times I've gone LD, yet my trader stayed up all night without a problem.

Anyone have an idea what to try? It's no fun playing under these conditions.

Is your trader on a different computer? with a different connection? Some simple things to try are cycling your modem, checking your cables. You could get a trace route program, it might be a server somewhere in the middle that you have to go through. Altho that doesnt explain why one would be fine and the other would ping out....

Trader's on the same computer, same account. I tried cycling the modem; no change. I haven't checked the cables. There's nothing that runs behind my desk (children, pets, etc.) that would have disturbed them, but I'll check.

Tan wondered whether it might be occurring just when I'm in an instance, but I was having the same problem in Oceangreen Hills last night.

might try to get your internet provider out to check some stuff mine was doing what you are describing right before i came back to eq the guy went up on the pole an found some type of filter coming to my house when he removed it seem to haven gotten better hope problem is fixed soon i know how it feel to spike an lag an drop .

check the task manager (right-click on the task bar) and look at the running processes (sort by cpu utilization). See if there's something else running that's competing for resources. Also, make sure that the cpu utilization in the process list matches the overall cpu usage graph...some root kits and such will hide themselves from the process list but the overall impact of their cpu utilization will show up in the graph.

Finally, just reboot the computer and see if that helps.

If you have a cable modem then it may be a burned out box. I've had similiar problems and both times I took my cable box in to be replaced. Both times that fixed the problem.

do what i do on garbage day sit puter on window and tell it to straighten up and fly straight or it will be out there next week, have you tried restarting your stuff, a good defrag, a spyware check ect, not much of a computer guy but ive found taking machine in for a good old cleaning has helped to

hehe rithis you sound like me before my stroke when the computer at work wouould decide to act up i would threten to take it to the roof and do s physics experiment ,,, drop it 4 floors to se how many pieces i came up with!

You said you had dsl... wut type of dsl modem you have and who is the provider by chance?

Seems like it's a Speedstream. It's provided by SBC (AT&T). I can't remember the model #.

Last night I had no lag in the guild hall. Tonight will be the acid test because I'm assuming the raid will be in an instance.

How was the lag?

Gone! But I didn't have Magelo update running in the background, and I used the regular patcher instead of the Station Launcher. Those were the two programs taking up the most CPU useage other than EQ when I checked the Task Manager, as Taldiwen suggested.

I'll add them back one at a time to see if that was the problem, but last night was fine.
