Last night I deleted Vangriff, my warrior, and created a paladin. However, I've always wondered, which is more important: AC or HP? Since I've never tanked before, I've never really paid much attention as to what I should focus on, HP or AC.

I'd assume that AC is more important, but then again, I could be wrong.... Please share your thoughts and opinions!

Inquiring minds want to know: what did you name him? Pipadin?

I would say, while hp is important, AC is a tad bit more important.

I'm trying to get more AC on Mal now as mobs hit hard in the higher game.

For tanking, AC is better than hps in most situations. If you're up against a mob that casts a ton though, your ac will be worthless to you. Here are a couple of good links to some threads about this topic and more info about hard and soft ac caps:

I actually named him Pipetank. It's very original, i know... I wasn't feeling very creative :-p

I'll need to get him tagged once he's out of Gloomingdeep :)

Thanks for the posts!

I think AT is most important for a tank.

Early on HPs will keep you alive. However, once you have sufficient HPs for your content, then AC becomes more important for improvement.

AC > HP once you get into the MT / OT business. At lower levels I would concentrate on getting your HP's up at first, they will benefit you more. Once you start getting AA's and working your defensive stuff you should be going full out to get the AC augs. The level of stuff we fight now, from a fellow pally position, AC will save yer behind and the healers will thank you for it. :)

Focus on AC gear and the hps will come, while the opposite isn't always true. I don't know how twinked your toon is or if you plan on PL'ing him, but I'd focus on AC at lower levels too. Even at lvls 10 - 20 your goal is to take as little damage as possible, so why wouldn't the gear choices be the same as they would 70 - 75?

I've always been heavily AC focused, and I think I've done ok.

All very good points and thoughts... thank you for everyone's input. Right now I'm basically using 3 or 4 pieces of old deepwater armor, and then my rings and earrings both are primarily HP boosts. Some of the other stuff I have is semi-twinked, while other things, like my stiched pants, are not. It seems like a working combo at level 11 (roughly 850hp and 450+ AC), but I will start focusing on AC items once I start leveling higher. :chili:
