You can use MS Paint to resize images pretty easilly.
Load up the image that you want to get resized into it, select "Image -> Stretch/Skew..." from the menu bar.
You'll be asked to modify the height and width by a percentage. Since you want to reduce the size, you'll want something less than 100. Since the images are so large already, you may want to go 50%/50% to start with. Be sure to reduce height and width by the same percentage, otherwise you'll start to skew the image.
You should be able to undo any steps you don't like and try again before you save it (and I would save it under a different name, in case you want to preserve the original - at least long enough for you to try again if you eventually don't like how your new image resulted)
