Day 1:

8:30 to 1:30

Get an early start...get the GPS working properly, pick up cash, navigate the freeway,



past Long Beach and LAX



Headlong into the traffic nightmare that truely defines LA. Even Herbie couldn’t get through it!



It took a while to find a parking spot, but I found one not too far away in less than an hour...Joe's car parks Inc...hand the keys and 15 plat to Miguel and I'm off.

On to the convention center!



Entry in the heavily camped south hall, meet my contact...I have no idea why I didn't get Matt's pic, but I can say he's a great guy and I really enjoyed meeting him. He was incredibly busy throughout the day, so I didn't get to spend much time with him.

Matt tells you 'Hi! I'm glad you could make it! I'm Matt and our quest is to secure one of these for you'

It's an E3 pass, glinting in the sunlight...Lore, NoDrop, NoRent, Neck slot, focus effect 'ingress'...he had some augs on his, but I couldnt make them out..probly business cards (+3 cha each)

Plenty of time to buff up and chit-chat with Matt...The Themis Group is a large and very well run solution for capturing the attention of the gaming public. It's a distinct honor to be associated with them, even if for a short time. Kimberly can't make it...it would have been nice to meet her...I imagine her looking something like this

Open backpack, find business card, don't panic, fill out form, be ready with evac, hand form to an_E3_verification_clerk, press 'give' button

You say 'Im with him'

an_E3_verification_clerk examines the serialized and freshly filled out form and applies the mystical blue stamp to it!

You receive a validated serialized E3 invitation!

I get a few steps away and remember that I forgot to give her pen back! Oki, dont panic...be ready to mez anything incoming and hope that rune doesn't break too quick...return pen to an_E3_verification_clerk

an_E3_verification_clerk tells you 'thanks! have a fun time at the show!'
You beam a smile at an_E3_verification_clerk


Line #2...the 'registration' subquest:
This one was easy but a long camp...the end of the line was 4 rows of boxen with electronic forms on them.

Day 1:

1:30 to 6:00

Armed with my new 'ingress' skill, now to scout out a camp identify and secure some ph4t l3w7z!

But first...a litte sound and fury in the south hall...



I must say, EA's 360 degree presentation really blew me away...The Godfather is coming up and it looks awesome.
I don't especially like what EA did to Legends of Kesmai, but I have to admit they're coming up with some really awesome new products

A little later, I wandered by the Sims2 nightlife and Sims2 for ps2...I really liked what I saw and heard



The Harry Potter game trailer was extraordinary! Definately gets high marks for looks...I'll wait and see how the gameplay reviews shake out

I didnt play anything at all, for 2 reasons...
first, I am absolutely the worst with console controllers (I really miss the old slik-stik...now THAT was a controller)...I would have either embarassed myself terribly or (far worse) been discovered!
second, i made a concerted effort to stay focused on the matters at hand...ph4t l3w7tz!

so far, all my focus had proven fruitless...there must be l3wtz somewhere...



I've played TestDrive since...what was it? 1983?

I found out that i needed a major planar upgrade for my E3 pass...either to a 'corporate' or 'media' version...drats, beaten by the ubers again..oh well

They did have mints out for us newbs, though... (pic later)
Sorbitol, Xylitol, Peppermint Oil, Menthol...combine in a gnomish candy contraption, yields 1 stack, trivial at skill 38, failures return a tin



I'll be back at the sony fortress the following day...for the moment, I was outcamped and there were still things to see today

A lemonade later, i was facing the Square-Enix area...nobody in his right mind would deliberately miss that...i liked their displays of figurines and stuff...



While taking a pic, some dude in a Square-Enix shirt expressed his disapproval of my taking pics of the displays...i suppose they dont want people to see them and maybe copy them in china...I dont like Square-Enix any more, so anyone wishing to do this can pm me and I'll send you the full resolution pic...i wouldnt have guessed that the purveyors of the instant classic final fantasy series games could be such jerks

this was just a prop for the mmofps Company of Heros (THQ)...the trailer looked really good, the booth wacs were nice (a couple pics of them later)
yes, i can say with high certainty that this is a genuine 24 volt willy-kaiser jeep model M38 (it may be an MBGPW...im a tad rusty on my jeep lore) and not a replica...its significance was lost on the geeks, tho..they paid it no mind at all...a shame



The Webzen guys and the fps Huxley made a big impression on me...absolutely awe-inspiring..setting is post-apocolyptic times, if i recall correctly



another batman product? can we leave this in the 60's already? yeah, batman is cool...but batman is adam west and the batmobile is a 67 GTO (or was that the monkee-mobile?)



Nintendo really put on a great showing...they rolled out products for everyone...much more on that later!

Somewhere between the south hall and west hall, I ran into an my buddy Kim from iGames in mountainview...Kim's a program director extraordinarre and i really enjoyed chatting with her about the work that we did together on the DAoC project...Themis and iGames, unstoppable combination...i was just happy to be even a humble part of such a great team

anyway, her people will call my people and we'll do lunch while she's in town
