Hmmm...

Seems like no real downside to this. It's a bit of "dumbing the game down", but that's nothing new. The "go home" is a bit of a rescue effort for those who camp during a bungled raid or whatever, but it's nice for the non-gating classes to have that sort of "free gate" option.

Agree with the Dumbing down aspect and personally wish some of that would stop. Where is the sense of accomplishment and skill going?

The 'dumbing down' is primarily an easing of the odiousness of certain aspects of the game that were never that good to begin with. Does anyone really want to go back to some of the 'issues' that have plagued us in the past? Say ... only one bag open at a time? only buying 1 item at a time (no stacks!!!) ? etc etc

In order to draw more people, certain things need to be simplified to make entry easier. When it was brand new, it was acceptable simply because we didn't know any better. Now, with innovation in other games, great features appearing that aren't as difficult ... it's better to accomodate some easing of the painful aspects rather than drive off potential customers because something is difficult to use (not DO, but USE).

As much as we've been around, the world has to be smaller, travel quicker and UI easier, or EQ wont make money and wont last. We cannot go back to the several HOURS needed to traverse from Qeynos to Freeport or to make the boats active again. Those were painful (and while useful to begin with) and are outdated at this point.

I dont believe that allowing someone to move/port after being logged out for 6 hours+ is really that bad a thing. It shouldn't affect anything adversely and should make more difficult camping situations easier.

The log in at full mana and health is pretty much the same thing. It doesn't adversely affect anything and gives a quicker entry to playtime than having to sit around for mana or health when you log in and are ready to play.

I'd rather that PLAY aspects (like skills -sense heading comes to mind-) be left alone and require someone to EARN them.

I always enjoyed the boat rides, except when the server would crash in the middle of Tim Deep :x I just wish they would let you fish easier when the boat was moving! I'd spend alot of time fishing and sightseeing then :wink:

The improved feature I'm most grateful for is the tradeskill one. It's so nice not having to put each item of a combine into the container.

I've enjoyed most of the simplifications, nee (sp?) "dumbing down", but am worried that the developers won't know quite when to stop. It would be sad to have EQ to the point where you have a big arrow pointing at the next mob you "should" kill for example. A bit extreme of an example perhaps, but hoping the point remains valid.

That is one of the things I objected to in EQ2; you could tell at a glance which mobs you "should" kill.

You're lucky, 99% of the time I use it, I die in less than 5 minutes. :) So I end up mana-less and without gather mana.

Another use for "Go Home", and one that was probably on the minds of the dev team is those that are stuck "UTW" (Under the World).

Log off, come back tomorrow to your home town.
