Wayfarers of Veeshan

Hey guys,

My computer is having a software issue, which requires the Emergency Boot/Recovery CD from Windows ME. I checked w/ Dell and they said they no longer carry this CD because ME is outdated. I can't start up my computer without this critical CD because I'm apparently missing a system.int file. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you or anyone you know has a Dell Windows ME recovery CD I'd greatly appreciate it if you/he/she would let me borrow it. I just want to install it and the files because I don't want to have to completely reformat my computer. I'd be more than happy to pay for the help, and/or the shipping of the CD to me and back again to the owner, and I would do it post-haste.

Basically, this means that I won't be signing on (except for moments at work) until I get the CD or give up and decide to just lose everything. I hope it doesn't come to that.

Do you know anyone with a copy of Windown ME (typo left intact )? There's a good chance that would do what you need. I had a dell laptop with WinME on it and will look to see if the recovery disc is laying around somewhere, but if it is trying to restore the computer to its factory defaults then my disc wouldn't do you any good. I personally find it hard to believe that they can't send you another disc. I would keep bugging them about it as it sounds like they're trying to sell a new computer...hehe

List here exactly what is happening please. It's possible that we can get around having to have some nebulous CD and I could get just the files you need.

When you start the computer, where does it stop working correctly and what exactly are the messages that it displays?

(No I dont work for Dell, but know lots of people who do...and I work for another 'puter manufacturer anyhow.)

i'll make a note for myself to make a recovery disk and put its contents up...cant be much more than a half a meg zipped....should be possible to unzip it to a bootable floppy and get the box to come up

if the cd got lost in a move, it might be worthwhile to ship all your stuff to a safe archive and upgrade, though...p4 and athlon bare boxen are getting to be a good deal, if you dont mind turning some screws and connecting stuff up...it'll shorten your zoning times, if nothing else

My suggestion is after you've fixed your problem system is number 1 do a complete virus scan with (it's a free online scan). Then if you dont have any virus's, run & to remove any unwanted stuff. Then do a system scan with scan disk fixing any probs that you might have & do a defrag. After this is all done save whatever files that you wish to keep & format the HD, then do a "fresh install" of XP (Pro if ya can get it). I never do an "upgrade" version of any OS, because trouble always seems to follow that method. Then after all this is done load your saved files onto your new OS.
