I've never read the Hitchhiker's guides -- but the forums on wtf were all nuts that he used that reference.

um. I've never read it. Of course I'm just now reading the Dragonriders of Pern, so obviously I have some catching up to do.

Not too far off topic: If you have a chance, read the new book Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It's what nudged me to read the Pern books.

I think I've read one Pern book in the past, but have poor recollection of it. Your post does bring an interesting idea to mind.. perhaps a book topic for comparing what we've read
