Wayfarers of Veeshan

After getting home form work at 11pm... I was too tired and angry to want to play and TRY to get my PC to accept dx9. This morning I downloaded the files... and rebooted. I got my wonderful "Windows cannot upgrapde files from %1 to %2" message/loop.

I reboot the PC with the start disk and now I am staring at a screen for the blind. EVERYTHING is huge and I cannot adjust the screen settings. My vid drivers are all screwed up and I cannot reload them because I keep getting the same message when I reboot (%1 to %2) thingy. When I run DXdiagnostic it said I have dx9 on the PC but it isn't being used and that I should use it. I cannot load dx9.. I cannot load new drivers.... I quit.

The PC is gonna get wiped and a new OS is gonna get put in tonight. ANYTHING that will work... Windows ME sux


(ok rant done now.... any ideas aside from getting a new PC?)

I would suggest booting up in Safe Mode to make any changes in the link that Drexx supplied. Looks like a decent chance at working.

THat is exactly what I did. when I restarted it after that.... I got my screen from heck. Now my drivers are corrupted for the video card and I cannot load new ones because I get the %1 to %2 issue and I have to redo my wininit.ini file and it starts all over again.

Whoa... I was just doing the renaming of the wininit.ini from the MS dos prompt on reboot. When I went to try it again from the search on the start menu, I do not have the file at all.. is that possible? Then I went to MSDOS to look that way and still could not find it. Odd

It appears that Wininit.ini will be in the Windows directory.

Nealyn, do not feel bad. Spent 6 hours last night trying to get into game and be able to see anything other than the inside of a box on a moonless night in January at the North Pole. Even got thru to Tech Support (would you believe) 4 times. Tried everything they said to try with no luck. The last guy finally said "well I am stumped."

Finally did get in at 11:45 CST after trying everything I could think of. But to be able to see anything in game have to set gamma so high that am practically unable to use the computer for anything else.

Was told the Development was working on a patch

OK I had to end up installing win98 to get around the failed driver load. Now I ccould get in and download dx9 and a new vid driver. Seems to be working ok but I haven't been able to get into the game yet cause the servers are conjested.

HEhehe silly me.. another patch is going on DUH!!!!!

It's what I got when I bought the PC, Windows ME. I will NEVER get it again if I can help it. I am still having troubles on the home front with the PC, but the good news is I can get in and play with minimal lag.
