I'm posting this outside guildies-only because I didn't want to shut out those who've left us.
When I began playing EQ, back in mid 2001, Kunark had just been released and level 50 was "uber". Velious and PoP soon took that away, but before that happened, I was struck with awe and wonder that anyone could achieve this level. Level 50 was a target that seemed elusive and when 60, then 65 became the cap, I still kept my eye on 50. It took me not quite 3 years to get here, generally playing twice a week, 3 hours at a pop. I have no clue if that is average, slow or fast...but I'll bet dimes to dollars it was a helluva lot more fun than the guy who leveled a froglok to 65 within 48 hours of that race opening up.
I felt it necessary to thank everyone who helped get me here, because soloing was NEVER my strong suit.

(and thanks to whomever got Billings to play in the first place).
Thanks to those people NOT in the guild who shaped me. These include the occasional person who gave me money or items simply because the realized that "noobs" aren't bad people, just underequipped and new to the game.
Thanks to Xandamir, Thunderhart and Talinoth, a good group of friends who've been the backbone of most groups I've been in. We made a decision over 2 years ago to stick these 4 particular characters together, week in, week out, and not level past each other. To my unending pleasure (but not surprise), we've stuck to that -- shared our profits, had good and bad times and grown as a "team". I don't think I would have enjoyed EQ half as much if I'd had to solo my way to 50. As all 4 of us came from a D&D background, the idea of "grouping" while "leveling up" was a very natural one.
But, when we first agreed to a core team on 2 set nights, we were very aware of how it might look to the guild, so we have always maintained an open door policy, trying to get folks to come with us on our "special nights". I would be surprised if there's a guildie out there I haven't grouped with at one time or another. If you haven't been with us before, come enjoy a night of bad jokes and good hunting
Finally, a huge amount of thanks to go my guild, the Wayfarers of Veeshan, and all her members, past and present. Having a solid group of friends to chat with, ask questions of, hunt with, give and take with (more "take" than "give" for my first 30 levels) was absolutely essential to enjoying EverQuest. I wouldn't trade you guys for anything. I'm proud to see how you all advance. Proud to see forward progress at all times. Proud that we always seem to remember there is a real life away from the game, which helps keep us grounded. I'm proud that you all remember to just enjoy the game and not obsess over uberness (much
). When WoV eventually reach the Plane of Time it will be at our own pace, with probably the best team to ever do so, because real friendships exist here, not just "some guy in game I have to work with and put up with so we can get as uber as possible".
I took 3 years to reach level 50, and to me that says I had your support, my own dedication, and a real life to boot.
That is how I wanted to reach level 50. With level 50 comes a new advantage as well -- the ability to group with even more of you who got here, and beyond, long before me. I look forward to that with enthusiasm.
