Mouse support in EQ (and the rest of SOE's games) is shoddy at best.
A few patches ago they added the ability to zoom in and out of your character's first person view using the scroll wheel. This means you can be looking out your toon's eyes, and then use the scroll wheel to zoom out into chase camera mode.
What SOE didn't bother to do was to support any mouse but the most generic PS2 or Microsoft mouse. I use a Logitech mouse, and can not get that function to work at all. It's what kept me from playing Star Wars Galaxies, even when I was picked as a beta tester. You have to have that scroll function to make the game playable at all... and I bet you will need it for EQ2 as well (many of the UI changes we are seeing are taken from SWG).
So, what does this mean? Using any mouse driver other than the Windows native PS2 driver will cause problems in one way or another. You might just get limited functions such as not being able to use the scroll wheel in chat boxes or to zoom in and out like myself, or, for an older mouse and driver, you may get really, really obnoxious errors.
To attempt to correct this you can try going in to your Hardware manager, deleting your mouse out, and then reinstalling it as a generic PS2 or Microsoft compatible mouse. Not a Logitech or whatever you are using (I believe Mouse Systems is the next most common).
