Wayfarers of Veeshan

Some day I'd like to hunt in the western, higher-level areas of Velious, but I'm having trouble figuring out how best to get there.

If I look at the zone connection map here:

I see that the only way to walk to the western half is through Kael Drakkal. Pretty dangerous, considering how many Frost Giants I've killed.

So I turn to our beloved Druid and his porting spells and see that 2 circles stick out, at 44th level:
Circle of Wakening Lands
Circle of Cobalt Scar

For the Wakening Lands, I notice the following text from EQAtlas:
<i>"...the Dragon Portal is located. The area seems very quiet, but in fact it is too quiet. The great dragon Wuoshi makes his home right at the portal. He is on the same faction as Skyshrine, so unless you've made friends there, he will attack you and, unless you're in a very large group or very lucky, most likely kill you. "</i>

Now, I have no reason to believe my Skyshrine faction has ever been worked on, so I assume I'm KOS to this guy, putting this port out of the question. And I can't GET to skyshrine to work on faction without first coming to Wakening Lands.

So next I turn to porting to Cobalt Scar, and see this text:
<i>"Entrance to Cobalt Scar must initially be gained by travelling through Skyshrine. A Shrine Key is required to use the teleporter from the dragon city to the tower here. Once you obtain the key from the dragon portal, however, you can also teleport here."</i>

But, to get to Skyshrine for my initial trip to Cobalt Scar, I need to get first to Wakening Lands. Which, see above, seems difficult if not impossible.

The only way I read this riddle is that I'm supposed to run through Kael Drakkal, city of giants that hate me, to make it to Wakening Lands.

Am I missing something? What other options am I overlooking?

Port to Cobalt Scar is available to anyone now, since they removed the need to run to each Dragon Circle to get keys.

Please note, that if you are unable to port out, do not go into Skyshrine ... especially if your faction with them isn't enough to get the quests for the key back to CS.

Easiest method is have a druid or wizard port you to Cobalt Scars. Cast Invis. and Levi. or Dead Man Floating, then go down to beach and pass the Othmir camps (love the music)....then you will follow the North (I think) wall, underwater til you get to the tunnel entrance that is protected by 2 sirens. You will swim out the tunnel and take the zone out. Once you have zone, take your handy pocket druid or pocket wizard and have them cast lessor succor. This brings you to the Siren's Grotto/West Wastes zone...be sure you are standing in the right direction and zone. Viola...you have arrived in Western Wastes.

Now that I have you totally confused....when you are ready to go, just shout and we will give you the guided tour

Ok, good info so far that Cobalt Scar port is open to all...excellent.

And nice lil trick to zip through Siren's Grotto and get to Western Wastes. But there are at least 2 more things I would like to know:

1) How to get to Wakening Lands?
2) A lowdown on Skyshrine faction...what is its default, why should I raise it, how do I raise it, can this be blown off, etc...

To get to Wakening Lands you will have to go through Kael. You can invis and make it through the zone from Eastern Wastes to Wakening Lands. If Wuishi is up, from what I understand, he will sniff you down and he does see through invis.

I am not positive about Skyshrine faction....I want to say that if you are a giant slayer then Skyshrine mobs will like you...someone else needs to verify that.

On another note about faction. You do want to slay as many giants as you can find until you can no longer get any worse with the giants in order for the dragons in WW to like you, as well as Wuioshi. If you plan to go there in search of items and such, that is. ...Hope this helps.

You can also port into Wakening Lands. Of all the times I've been there, Wuoshi has been up only once. However, he killed me that time and most of my group even though I have good faction with him. Reason? One of my group members did not have good enough faction, and Wuoshi's AoE spell got us all.

Excellent excellent information all around. Of course, answers always raise new questions...so I turn to Alley and ask how did you get your faction up with Wuoshi? He's on Yelinak and Claws of Veeshan faction, both of which are Skyshrine factions. My research indicates that raising this faction is hard, and not done by killing Frost Giants (more's the pity). Do tell, please, how and WHY it was raised...I'm eager to learn all I can.

It is nice to have the "can't get any worse" on the giant faction but and that is a big word here "can't get any better" on Claw of Veeshan is what you should strive for.

Malbro is max ally to CoV and dwarves, Minalcar is max ally to dwarves and amiable to CoV.

A way to check status without the run thru Kael is Kardakor in GD as he is on CoV faction. Seek him out in the wurm caves and con him from a distance.

For Coldain faction - kill the giants
For Giant faction - kill dwarves and dragons

have been there many times and only saw him once,but he seemed to like me and did nothing my thinking is if you killed alot of giants you should be ok .
btw if you make the kael run ,the giants dont see invis on that route but if you stray off the safe route they DO! so make sure you have a good map or someone who knows the way.

ps iam gonna check faction of those i port there now alley hehe

Weird...very weird...

I swore I saw that CoV can't be raised by Frost giant killing, but now as I look, I realize that was specifically Yelinak!

Wonderful news then, to keep killing Frost Giants and raise CoV that way! I would be willing to guess that since I spent the better part of 5 levels whacking mostly Drakkel Dire Wolves and Frost Giants that Wuoshi might even like me (or ignore me) if I port to WL and find him up...

Far and away there are two easy ways to raise CoV faction.

1 - Be in GD during the Ring War. I was fortunate enough to blunder into the Ring War twice, thus fixing my faction with CoV once and for all. First time I was a barnacle, sticking an arrow in every mob I saw. Massive number of faction adjustments, one for each mob you pincushion. I estimated the number at over fifty giants I hit, including the big boys that pop at the end of the fight for plus-sized faction hits. Second time I was grouped in support of a friend. I targetted only my group's mob, and got fewer of the faction adjustments.

2 - Go to Kael Drakkal and tag along on a raid to kill Vindi/Statue/AoW. Being involved in eradicating these menaces helps a lot, and you can usually tag along for gear as well... I walked off with a Reaver just because I was the gimpiest tank in sight who could use it. I was grinding the Arena at the time and the trip to the Vindi/Statue/AoW was a bonus.

Between these things I am Max up to CoV, Max up to Dorfs, Max down to giants of any description.

..easy way to check your faction is to port into cobalt scar--peek out and con one of the drakes.... they are on the cov faction.
