Post subject:  A tribute to EQ - A walk down memory lane

You know you're a veteran EQ player:

When getting to FP from BB meant a 30 min boat ride
If you've ever paid for a char transfer OR have hidden items for a transfer
If you've ever went LD zoning into NFP
If you've ever sold anything behind Jade's
If EQ made you more interested to see LOTR and not the other way around
If you've ever shouted stats on an item or asked if your HIE CLR can use
When dinging 50 didnt mean 15 more lvls
When clarity was cast by a high lvl chanter
When a monk with 2 Blackjacks was uber
When you could make patterns on the ground with your copper
If you've ever taken 2 lvls to save up for your first bag
If you considered banded armor as uber
If you've ever gotten your surname in LOIO and then kicked yourself the next day because you thought of a better one, then considered marriage to change it
If you've ever not known whats going on because you were staring at your spellbook to meditate
If you've ever been required to pay 100pp or more for KEI that could be cast on any lvl
When traveling to Luclin required a Portal Fragment
When you had to practice sense heading or made a dwarf because they started with 50 in that skill
If you've ever paid a noob Dark Elf to buy your Enchant Metal spells in Neriak
If you've ever accepted a no-exp rez to avoid the hour long trip back to your body
If you've ever paid for a bind
If you've ever had all 8 bank slots full of tradeskill items
When having to pull a bag out of the bank just to see whats in it
When GMing a tradeskill meant holding down CTRL and clicking 6-10 times per combine
If you've ever camped giants just to get an uber Forest Loop

Thanks to Mysterrie for helping me compile this list...Please add more if you can think of any

if it ever took you 3 months to make lvl 14.
if you remember a land without LDoN... Adventures... PoP... Or LoY.. Or Luclin.. or Velious.. Or Kunark, you know, when you did quests like following the wolf in west Karanas or when making your very own werewolf hide cloak was major!, or when Lower Guk was for the BIG players.
if you can remember when Veeshan had no level 50 characters..

Oh yeah.. or if you remember when Blue bards were Uber.

If you paid a Druid or Wizard for a 'port -- regularly.

If you've made the Freeport <--> Qeynos run -- because you had to.

If you remember the in-game bulletin boards where you could post public messages.

If you remember seeing bright red armor and said, "Wow, Rubicite!"

If you ever fell through the world and took 10,000 points of damage; this may still happen AFAIK.

If you broadcast "Ding!" when you levelled and people would respond with "Gratz!"; does this still happen?

If you did a /who in Lake of Ill Omen and the number of characters in the zone was three digits; yes, it was commonly over 100!

If you paid $9.89 a month for an EQ subscription and knew why; 989 Studios was the original developer.

If you remember seeing the number of players logged in on each server on the server selection window.

OK, that's all I can remember right now, thanks for the nostalgia!

If doing the Stein of Moggok run was one of your best money making ventures.

If you ever /auctioned as your primary way to sell things.

If you ever studied maps and bestiaries for hours, trying to figure out how to get your level 5 human from Freeport to Qeynos and finally decided it was impossible.

If you ever camped or because their uber loot outweighed the impossibility of them spawning.

If you ever spent the first 10 levels wearing a cloth cap, cloth pants, wooden shield and using a rusty <weapon of choice> because there were no newbie-armor quests and that was all you could loot off of decaying skeletons.

If, at lvl 12 and with about 2 months of EQ under your belt, you went to upper guk to upgrade that cloth to woven armor dropped by the zone in frogs.

If you've ever gawked at a rogue epic and thought "wow....I'll NEVER be able to get that"

If you ever sat in Freeport and speculated with others in /ooc what the new playable race was going to be in the upcoming Kunark expansion (cat was the most popular answer)

If you've ever stood in a line behind "Jade's" to inspect someone's bags of gear they were selling

If you've ever camped the Staff of the Observer quest drops in Steamfont because the Sentry effect on it was essential for medding with your nose in your spellbook

If you've ever bought and used the armor that the vendors sell

If you ever payed a lot of money for player made fine plate armor because it was dyed a particular color

If you ever spent HOURS in Highold Pass camping that guard for the Testament of Vaneer...THE item of choice for all wisdom casters.

....I could do this all day....hehe

LOL Zbix...I forgot about camping Dyllon Starshine. I actually called into work sick one day because he finally spawned. Bad news is that with just less than a hour to go ( people were gathering so I knew it'd be soon ) the server crashed. I waited 16 hours for that guy, but when he popped, he had it coming. A few quick blasts did the trick, then loot and gate cause that higher lvl thief guy would wander by and attack if you took to long. /sigh those were the days

EC was the trading place, long before N Freeport or the Bazaar
(and you had to list the items stats, they couldn't be linked)

For a necro to have the robe from Najena was uber

When it took a full group plus a few to bring a sand giant in oasis down

Lake Rathe was always camped at the zone to S karana (I think it was SK:)

When GM's would actually appear in person to give you a last name, and sometimes stick around to chat for awhile

LGuk and Sol B were HARD zones only for brave players to adventure there

When system-wide announcements were made when someone reached (the maximum level of) 50! IIRC, Koran and Korath (sp?) were the first two to reach 50 on Veeshan (and maybe even across all servers) -- and they were Rogues!

When buying a Minotaur Battleaxe was a great weapon upgrade and the price went up the further from Steamfont you were; like Qeynos or distant Erudin.

When Rogues could make good money mixing dyes for coloring Fine Plate armor. Fine Plate armor was high in demand at that time so there were plenty of customers. Personal note: prior to Markas' rebirth as a true Paladin of Mithanial Marr he was known as the sinister Markas Blackheart and proudly wore his black Fine Plate armor.

When the tunnel to The Hole (the one guarded by skeleton miners) was a big mystery as to what it's purpose was (or would be).

Pc was what you played EQ on not where you went.
Befallen had some great gear in it (Forget the name was arm slot had +2 agi), but you had to be sure not to fall into the holes.
The ride to FP was language practice time.
My trueshot longbow was a good bow (Newer players probably never seen it).
You were amazed to see an Ogre in Kelethin.
/who 65 all
