Right below the part about tyrell robotics and the nexus phase it states that the nexus 6 being superior in strength and agility and at least equal in intelligence to the genetic engineers who created them. So are they clones not from what I have read but then the question is are they andriods, what is deffinition of android? Does it include a biological being you cant tell from original? searching for definitions now.

ANDROID IS
Basically, an android has nothing to do with an automata or robot, because it simply means "similar to man". This similarity between man and android has to be found in his body and mind. A morphology next to a living being is called anthropomorphism, next to a human being is called humanoid (1 head, 2 arms, 2 legs). In this context 'The Android' is a "humanoid sentient automata" and made of synthetic textures. Dick often uses the name 'simulacra' to stress the android's intention to fake a human being (in "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" PKD replaces the machine with an organism, resulting in an android that is more human than human). The difference between human and android may be narrow. Some agree to the fact that sentience is a criterion, but there are already AIs which claim to be... For others the criterion is consciousness, but Turing showed that it's identification is impracticable and a human could fake an AI by answering syntax error in the test. Dick asserts that kindness is the difference. I myself don't know at all, and am not intended to care about in this site.

I remember the snake scale with the marker from the movie. I had always taken it that the level of engineering of genetics had reached such a degree that nano tech allowed for such things as serial numbers grown in. I'd say it seems as if they were biological machines made items but not using mechanical parts usually associated with a robot, based on above deffinition thought they are androids.

Also I can't recall the exact dialogue but with script might read the bit between roy and tyrell when roy questions various ways to extend a replicants life. I remember some problems such as recombined DNA causing a nasty virus that destroys the organism or close to that Blah Blah stuff pointing to the biological make up of replicant androids.
