I was in Information Technology for 12 years, but I'm ready for something different. I've decided I really want to get a business degree with a focus on finance. I'd like to get my degree online because I wouldn't have to move to go to college, my only concern is how online degrees might be viewed compared to degrees from a state college.

Has anybody gotten their degree online or been in a position to hire people that had online degrees? What were your experiences?

I went to high school through correspondence courses. The only thing that has ever been questioned about it was how long did I live in Chicago and did I enjoy it (I've never been there), which can be awkward to answer. I've settled on smiling and nodding. It was not online, but worked the same way (though slower). It is not obviously a correspondence/online school, so there really hasn't been a problem. The few times I've offered that it was correspondence work, I've gotten a weird look and then curiosity more than anything. I don't think it has affected being offered a job (but I could be wrong).

My mom is currently working on her BA in Business from Devry. So far her only problems have been with getting ahold of a "real" person to work any problems out. The actual coursework has been fine. She will get a promotion when her degree his finished. Her employer is actually owned by Devry, so no problems there.

I think if I was going to get an online degree, I would get it from a school that is not strictly online. Pick a regular university and enroll in their online Business program. Then you end up with nothing on your resume to indicate that you got an online degree. That way if you end up running into a possible employer who doesn't like online degrees, you don't have to point it out.

there r a lot of credible schools/colleges online just do ur research on them....my daughter is looking to start an art college after the first of the yr...she is talking to a lot of them now tho...u can even apply for grants for them...good way to make sure they R credible is gov will give u a grant if u qualify.
