Amistica and I have a child on the way IRL, and we're having a bit of a 'discussion' on the potential female name. We're both polling the forums we visit to see what our friends, allies, and fellow lurkers think of these two names:

Chelsea
Meredith

I would have set up a vote, but I don't seem to have permissions for that on this board. No sweat; just reply and let us know what you think, please!

We both agree on the name Nicholas for the potential male offspring, so you probably won't see a similar post for that in the future.

Without knowing your RL surname I would go with Meredith.

Girls
Based on the 1990 US Census, Chelsea was ranked the number 407 most popular Girls name in the US.
Based on the 1990 US Census, Meredith was ranked the number 434 most popular Girls name in the US.

Boys
In 1997 this was the number 3 chosen name in the US
Based on the 1990 US Census, Nicholas was ranked the number 64 most popular Boys name in the US.

I think either of the girl names are good and it will depend a good bit on personality as well.
We didn't have a name picked out for a girl and it really became apparent who she was after a day or so.
No worries and no rush on naming.

Yar, our RL surname starts with an "S," if that would have any impact on your preference for the name. We're also intending to use the middle name "Lynn".

Tan, that Census data was one of the things we used in picking potential names--we didn't want something that was "too commonly used" (although we know that no matter what name we pick there will probably be 6 others with the same name in the child's school! lol) It is worth noting that some localities will basically demand that you assign a name the same day for their records*. We don't think ours is one of that sort, but we want to basically know where we stand.

*Think of US Olympic Skier Picabo Street, lol.

I won't vote, only because I'm ultra superstitious about it...no logic to this. With our kids, couldn't name them until we held them

another gthing to think about in naming a son is to use the wifes family name as a midle name this workd very well if you happen to be recycling first names. my youngest brother is named Timoth Rice Cobb and my mother often regretted not naming thr oldest John Rice Cobb as her father was John and so was her paternal grandfatherand i nowlive on John RiceDrive(nmed sfter my mothers Paternsl grandfather who owned most of the land whivh the rosd goes thru(we hsd to petition the postoffice to gt this name and everyonr living on it signed since the name John Rice was in their deeds
