The Nevrax Visit!

One o'clock rolls around and I have an audience with the folks at www.nevrax.com Nevrax.

Past the developer-type guys in the outer sanctum...

Next thing I know I'm with Jessica Mulligan, Executive Producer!

A formidable woman on a mission.

We have very limited time, so she comes right to the point...Ryzom is changing, here's how...

Atys is the world on which the game takes place...up to now, it's been a pre-defined world set up by the creative teams of Nevrax...much like any other mmorpg...

Jessica's plan with Ryzom Ring is to put a set of the tools of the world builders in the hands of the players. The implications are mind boggling...a guild, group or individual can create their/his/her own world to play in under this system!

I honestly wish I had more useful feedback to give her...the truth is that my experience with Ryzom is VERY limited. Here's what I did have to offer, though...

I gave Ryzom very high marks for visual content, environmental physics, a super friendly community, well conceived skill trees and great character models. I thought it needed more feedback devices, i.e. 'dings' and such...she remarked that when she had come aboard Nevrax, they didn't even have a death animation...The learning curve (and she agreed) is steep...very steep.

My impression...Ryzom is heading to success, in a big way...the people at the helm are listening (to even the most humble of the player base) and understand that guilds are the heart of an mmorpg...I'd encourage everyone to have a look, even if it's just for the initial 2 week tryout time

Did you go to the ps3 presentation with the digital cups of water? That video has been making the rounds here at school...neat stuff. I was most excited by nintendo's announcment that the next nintendo console will be able to download and play ALL nes, super nes, and n64 games. D'oh! There I go...drooling again.

Day 2 - Entry Last...Winding down:

Time to take one more lap through the expo and camp...Everyone's really got their 'A' game on, so there's something new around every corner...

The guys at THX did a nice job on the trailer and displays for Company of Heros, an upcoming ww2 fpshooter (i think)...



LA county ordinance prohibits geekly gatherings without StarWars characters...



More from the minds of the Webzen guys...I'm not sure what FIU is, but the chixors were dressed pretty cool
Probly a fps set in some time period with some sort of weaponry, with a back story...where's that lemonade stand again...?

This attractive lady in the Gamespot booth looked a little puzzled when I asked her for a pic, hehe...I got a nice keychain thingy from her (thanks! )



It's fun to stay at the - M - C - A (accepting the tube-top award)


Great idea, making family/kidling friendly games...



Will it sell in a world of 'Dead or Alive' girls and 'Doom'? It'd be nice to imagine a world where there's room enough in the marketplace for all, but time will tell...


One more spin by the SoE fortress...last time I was there, the reception was less than warm...this time it's a lot better

WoVEotSR: Sure, here ya go...What's your pick for the coming year?
Kenny: This one looks like it'll be great when it hits the store... Those handhelds are just too small for boney fingers
WoVEotSR: Can you tell us what's coming up in EQ this year?
Kenny: Sure...Someone will figure out that it was the drolvargs ruining their own lands all along and set up a community day in Dreadlands...Drachnids will come and walk around in the sammiches during picnic time and spoil the day...then you'll all get another veteran aa thing
WoVEotSR: Wow! exciting news! uh oh...isn't that Sergent Slate over there?
Kenny: not again....
Slate: That's it, scum! you're outta here!

A copy of the (first 3 levels demo) DVD for FATE, by WildTangent...The game's creator was there and I got him to autograph the inside of the jacket, hehe...he said 'Im not famous or anything'...I told him 'you will be'...
A DVD published by the government of Queensland...i think it's in Austrailia somewhere...apparently they want people to move there, for some reason (/shrug)
Lower right - (going kinda up and zigzagging up to the upper right) The one 'limited E3 poster' i got...i forget the game...something by someone and the coast guard (or national guard or queen's guard or right guard or nose guard)

So there you have it...the 10th annual E3 is a wrap...I had an awesome time and I hope my humble review was worth the read...thanks for bearing with me during a particularly hectic couple of weeks


I can't fully express my gratitude to my hosts at The Themis Group, who are now receiving a bunch of cool stuff from various exhibitors (I got scanned a 'few' times, hehe) I hope we have the occasion to meet again

Special thanks to the people at Nevrax...I wish I had more useful feedback to offer you guys, but I can say you've got all the elements of a great product...I'm staying tuned to Ryzom so I may actually get good enough at it to speak intellegently about it

Great report Livo! Did you manage to see the Call of Cthulhu exhibit? I just learned it was slated for release (after 3 years delay) this coming September.
