The deep resounding sounds of flapping wings echoed over the expanse of the mountains. A cool breeze tickled through Katia’s fur as she glanced out of the small cave that they based their operation in. The stale smells of dirt, sweat and death filtered around her. She snorted softly and turned back into the depths. Her black lizard mount Daxicalos murred softly, her spirit dog Bosco at her side. Commotion quickly sounded within the cave, shouts and screams from the habitants, the wretched Grimlings. Katia smirked softly, battle-ready.
She could see a quick movement from around the corner, the time had come. Out to the cave entrance flew her partner Kahmon, trailed by the entire regime of grimlings. Her hands moved quickly, sicking her spirit dog on the lone geomancer. Her pet could easily take the casting witch, she went down easily against tooth and claw.
Katia turned back to the shadow knight, Kahmon, who had at least twelve battling grimlings attacking his scaled hide. Her fingers created symbols in the air as she slowed three of them to lessen the attack. She soon after created clouds of disease and poison to rain down upon the close group of enemies. Four of the smarter grimlings knew where the incredible burning came from, and turned on the Vah Shir. Bosco moved on to attack those that battled against his mistress.
Kahmon’s movements were a dance, his arms moving at lightening speeds. He felt the incessant pounding of the grimling’s bony fists, but worked on, slicing his swords against each grimy body. A flick of his wrist deflecting attacks as he landed another score against them. He felt his body rejuvenate and his wounds fade when his shaman partner found a brief instant to heal him.
The walls shuddered when an icy blast of winter attacked a late coming geomancer. Katia knew these had to be dealt with swiftly, due to their casting ability. Bosco snapped up at the highly wounded geomancer for the killing blow.
Daxicalos the mount roared in frustration when it felt the wounds of it’s rider and of it’s own body growing fatal. Katia took the clue and worked her furry fingers into another healing spell, not even having noticed her depleting health due to the adrenaline rush of the battle.
Kahmon fought down against four remaining grimlings, Bosco nipping at their legs and hands to slow their attacks while Kahmon went for more vital parts. The grimlings screamed in terror once more as a last cloud of poison rained fiercely down upon their skin, and the singing blade of Kahmon’s sword slashing at their throats. The last bodies twitched, then fell still as the puny existence of their lives left them. The Iskar and Vah Shir victors cheered in appreciation, each having done their job perfectly, even in their exhausted state.
The bodies were looted, runes galore, a few gems, but none of the regime held the precious ore that the two hunters were farming for. But they believed that even with the low loot outcome, it was certainly the battle that held the most worth.
