There is a slight possibility I may be upgrading my motherboard and processor. What EQ files do I need to back up to save all my settings?

You will need to copy your Allegretta*.* files. There are some INI and OPT files that contain everything. Also, if you've made any changes to your UIFiles, you'll want to save those as well.

If you are using the same HD, then you should be alright, but like Tan said, any Alley files would need backing up. Additionally, if you have any screenshots that you have taken and wish to keep, those would also need to be backed up.

thanks for info :) i'll keep my fingers crossed that i can mange the upgrade, because it's no fun (not to mention dangerous) having to face the wall in places like chardok because of lag issues.

Just to give you a little bit of comfort, Alley, I changed the processor, motherboard and memory in my computer and did a simple HD swap and didn't have to back-up anything. As long as it isn't your HD that you are changing, you will be fine!

You can even just back-up to whole EQ folder if you want it easy. I have a second Hard Drive and use it to store everything I want to save. Like Drivers, EQ game, letters, etc...

Just install your EQ game disks when you get your PC running again and then write over with your back-up of EQ. Then you will not have to wait for all the patches to download.

I have done this many times because of being on a 56K modem for years. Up to cable connection now but still saves me time.

Great advice, Hilil - thanks! :) Hopefully I will get by without replacing my hard drive, but I was going to back up a few things just in case . . .

Actually.. I've copied my whole eq folder to a cd and copied to other computers... it works fine.. no additional use of an install disk needed.. even just copied it from one computer to another over the network and just started playing from the copied files.. works fine.
