ok thanks to tan an alley for the suggestions. and sadly as it may be, ive already tried those. ....plus some
my compter is running REALLY slow. i have 40 gigs and about 10 of that is free space. i have 512 ram, and a 1.9 ghz pentium 4. windows Xp Pro, with every update installed and Service pack 2.
the strange thing is. my computer will run at 30% cpu power and 100% when i try to open a file. this is NOT normal. also my freespace has been decreasing without me doing a thing besides scanning and removing files. some folders and files will not remove themselves saying they are in use.... which they are not. AOL will never uninstall so thats not new on this one, but maya 4.5 will not trash the docs folder and some of my music folders will not move though everything in them will.
ive tried in this order
running ad aware
running kasperky anti virus software (had a few trojan downloaders)
running ad aware
running kaspersky anti virus software
running spybot
updating spybot
running spybot
defragmenting
deleteing unknown folders. (such as anything inside my temp file)
changing internet security settings (to very high i get asked when i want to allow my PC to run EQ)
deleting excess files in my music. (music i dont like anymore.)
ok after all this i can get my PC to run at about 17-30% cpu power standing still by stopping some of the basic processes, itunes,aim,msnim, deamontools, winamp
but it still is much slower than maybe 4 days ago or so
one thing i should point out is that my system idle process is running at 100% cpu or so and i can feel it when i normally could not.
any ideas on what to do to get rid of this would be loved and adored and um, ill kill something for you or something....YEA!...something like that :\
