My home computer has been prompting me to install Service Pack 3, but when it gets to a certain point it says "access denied." When I click OK, it proceeds to undo whatever it's done and then gives me the ominous statement of "Service Pack 3 was not fully installed. As a result, Windows XP may not operate properly." (I paraphrased this; can't remember the exact message.)

I've tried installing it twice, with the same results. My questions: Is it absolutely necessary to install this? If not, how can I get it to stop nagging me to try?

Hmm. After reading some posts on the Service Pack 3 update forum, I'm not sure I even want it. It has problems working with AMD processors, it messes with sound drivers/capability, and it disables other things.

But it looks like my fault for not uninstalling iTunes (who knew?) and disabling my firewall and AVG before trying to install it.

Personal recommendation: Don't install SP3

When the prompt comes up to download it, uncheck it, then check the box that says "never prompt me for this again"

Interesting. I started having issues with my Vista comp after updating with SP2 or whatever the latest is. Ended up reinstalling from scratch last night.

I love having EQ and other stuff on a second hard drive, so its really easy to just reinstall windows every once in awhile - it usually needs that.

I have had no problems with SP3

I keep a sledgehammer within my computer's sight....... it seems to keep it in line *shrug*
