pc turns on then shuts off i think its a power supply problem and im hoping that it is.
if thats the case will be gone a few days if its not i may be gone for longer

Let me know if you need any tech advice. I do it day in and day out at work, but I'd be happy to lend a hand. It could be the power supply, if it does power up can you get into the BIOS at all? if you can and it stays on then your problem could be RAM or some other component in your PC. Good luck and if you need advice let me know. |

pc just shut down wont turn back on so im guessing power supply i have a few spare pc around but none with the same harness i need so ill cut strip and make joints on friday and hope thats the problem. any other reason the pc would just shut down? ill be able to check in tomorrow and friday but that will be it for abit till i get this figured out, if its not my power supply ill be gone till after christmas the mother board p4 chip fan for chip ram are only 2 yaers old so i cant see it being them the power supply is about 7 or 8 years old and has had heavey use |

Sounds like PS. If you can hook up a spare PS to just the mainboard, to see if it powers on and gets video, that would let you know. Don't need to power the drives, just enough to POST and see if the hardware works. |

k thanks tan, im going to giver her a go on friday night going to take home my testers and test them all to make sure they have power on them before i hook them up i really hope this is the problem lol |

The only other reason the PC might shut off if it thinks it's overheating. Especially if it's an Intel CPU they have a built in temperature sensor and will scale back then shutdown if they believe they're overheating. I agree with Tan try hooking up the PS not even necessarily mounting it in, to see if that powers it up. |

well got looking at this PS and it has a cable no other PS has a 4 pin connector i think this is my old dell PS hooked another onr up it all comes on the fan for the cpu the fan for the video card and the PS fan nothing else works though cd drives will not open and just a black screen on monitor so i hope this week i will have a matching PS with this 4 conductor cable |
