Hiyas all.

I have been trying really hard for the last 5 days or so to figure out how to resolve my connection issues where I go to log on Wow OR EQ and it DC's my internet. (Dont hate on me cause I play WoW either =P)

For my Main PC which runs Win XP home edition:

I have scoured the forum and suport links trying to resolve the issues. I tried to get updates for my other nic card and i have had no luck other then a driver from 2001 provided by microsoft. Apparently its older then dirt, its a Realtek RTL8029(AS) PCI Ethernet Adapter, So is the onbard one which is the intel pro 1000/ct Version. I was able to get updated for that but the driver is from 2007.

The older pc running win 2000 is still able to get out without crashing the cable modem so I am tempted to swap cards on it. I have a Realtek RTL8139 (A)-based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter in that with an even OLDER driver in it 1999 LOL. I cant play on that PC it is difficult to see or play on it. It's a pretty old box with a monitor which is about to take a dirt nap. I use it mainly to surf the net while i play.

I've already ruled out the fact that it might be my router cause if one pc on the network can get out without DCing the internet then they both should be able to.

I really dont know what else to do other then buy another adaptor for the newer pc (which I did I will have them in a few days). It seems as tho these realtek ones are really not supported anymore. I never had a problem with them they just did what they did with no fuss lol. It kills me to just throw them out when they still work fine (aside from getting on wow or EQ).

This is a known problem for WOW. It is new for me that EQ has started doing it also. Here is the wow link http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/threa ... 8590&sid=1 You can find more info about it there then on EQ boards.

Lets see what I have tried....

I have forwarded the ports to Blizzard DL in my router all the ones suggested on the site... 3724, 6112 and 6881-6999
Updated my windows files.... all the network drivers (as much as i could)...... basically everything.
I updated all the firmware and bios and stuff on my mother board
I updated the firmware on the router
I did the IP Release/Renew and Flush DNS
I have power cycled the modem and router several times and leaving it off for a good 5 mins to boot.
Disabled Firewall built into XP and on the router
I dont even USE a virus scanner
I have run all dignostics on internet and network and whatnot.
And again.......the other PC on the network gets on and off of WOW or EQ just fine so im not blaming my router.
I disabled the Checksum Offload
Tried the Duplex speed to force 100Full and also 10full
I deleted the WDB Folder and interface and cach folder. (WoW stuff there)

I tried Tracert but I dont think im doing it right. its not working at all. It also disconnects me from the internet when I do it.

I also went into MS config and turned off alot of things that were in the start up section that I didnt need, I run my pc as bare bones as i can......

I havent solved the problem but I have learned a lot! LOL!

My head hurts! This is too much work just to get a game working right on my pc.

Have you tried disabling the Realtek NIC and just going with the Intel PRO 1000?

Press Windows Key + Pause Break
Click on Hardware, then Device Manager
Open up Network Adapters (click on the +)
Right click the Realtek NIC and then left click on Disable
Click Yes or OK and it should have a red X on it
That device is now disabled.

Try running EQ again with the Intel only.
If that doesn't work, reverse it.

This should tell you if it's one of the NICs, other option is to simply pull the addon card out and try again.

The onboard was always the one I used and the reltech was just one i was too lazy to take out of the PC and had been disabled. Then I disabled the Intel pro and just tried the Realtech and it acted even worse then the Intel.

Last time I was able to use EQ without it DC'ing the internet was the anguish raid. Now every time I log on i can sit on it for a few minutes and it slowly lags out and I can watch my cable modem just DC itself at that point.

I am hoping the new nic cards I have on the way help but no promises there. I wont have them till tomorrow.

I can surf the net for hours on end and I even did alot of downloading last night too, with no problem but as soon as I try the games forget it.

If you can use the NICs for hours without an issue ... it sounds specifically related to the high traffic games. Hmm.

Have you added any other software to the system lately?

I looked at that too and tried to get rid of as much as I could. Ill look around again and see if I find something.

I think the last thing I put in was CuteFT Pro 6 so I could work on a friends website but that was about a month ago.

I got a d-link Dge 530T now and I am testing EQ out with it now.

I think it fixed things for EQ. Doesnt seem to be lagging out. I still feel as tho there are issues with that computer and I am thinking of doing a full wipe/restore after i purchase a bottle of excedrin lol.

I went to format/restore and now it won't take a new install. It gets part way through copying the xp files for set up and craps out. Sometimes it just reboots other times it just reboots and errors. Something is way wrong on the motherboard. I have it stripped down to it's knickers and no luck.

Sounds similiar to my problems. I'm on a mutt built in 2001 that has been pretty solid. I get various errors all over and the occasional restart. It seems the more intensive the operations, the less time between crashes.

I finally gave up and ordered a whole new system that should keep me going strong for several years to come. If I'm lucky, It will be here on Friday, but it looks like Monday is more likely. I just hope Vista *shudders* isn't as bad as it used to be.
