Well last week I returned home from work and noticed the unmistakable smell of burnt electrical wiring upon entering my room. I hit the power switch on my computer and nothing happened. Upon removing the power supply I noticed that it was the source of the burnt smell and had parts rattling around inside. On payday I purchased a new 500W power supply, connected it up and hit the switch and again nothing the fan and motherboard LED flickered but went off. I suspected a short and so removed all cards and disconnected all drives, hit the power switch and on came the power. I proceeded to reinstall one card at a time untill all cards were back in and the CD drive and still everything was working fine. I then installed my main hard drive and when I hit the power button there was a soft POP and smoke began to billow out of the drive! Needless to say I quickly disconnected the power removed drive and the computer turned on fine again, the second drive did not go in such a dramatic fashion but it was bad as well causing the power supply to go into safe mode again. Luckly a friend had a "spare" 80 gig drive and so I've been reinstalling everything, just finished 17 hours of EQ updates. I lost all of my MP3 files etc but at least it didn't burn the house down. Oh the computer burnt up while off by the way, my computer continues to supply power to the Motherboard even when off, the LED indicator on board stays lit.
Anyway I'm back up and have reactivated my EQ and EQ2 accounts so should be in game again soon. Not looking forward to redoing UI again though
