Not sure if anyone can help me with this, but I guess I can give it a shot. I've been wrestling with an issue with my sound card for a while now that only occurs during MIDI playback on my Windows XP system. The problem did not occur on the exact same system back when I was running Windows 98SE. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but in this case, a sound will have to do. I have recorded a sample of the problem and made it available at... If you listen carefully you can hear that the first introductory cymbal wash is clean, but after that every note, every hit of the cymbal (producing the constant washing effect for the song) causes a crackle and pop sound. It's almost as if it is adding a split fraction of a second of white noise to the beginning of the waveform for the instrument each time a note is hit. This problem only occurs during MIDI playback. Digital audio such as MP3 and WAV play back crystal clear with no issues. The popping will occur for any instrument that has a lot of notes in rapid succession, that also has a sustain value. (ie: the instrument sound doesn't die off the second the note ends, it sustains and fades out) Anyways, if anyone has heard of this issue, or maybe even might know how the fix it, the help would be greatly apreciated. Thanks, - Att P.S. - A few little facts. All devices have a unique IRQ (under 15). There is no sharing or conflicts. Yes, I did try rebooting. Yes, I did try disabling anti virus software. I have tried many different soundfonts. It doesn't make any difference. |

Did you go & update your drivers from Creative's site? Check their tech forums, maybe your answer will be there. If all else fails go to the tray in the lower right hand corner of your screen find the volume control, click on it and then click on mute. |
