Anyone out there ever had a processor go out on them... like burn up? Will the computer attempt to power up, or ignore your pushing of the power button if the processor is fried?

In general, a computer shouldn't shut itself off unless there is a problem. (laptops don't count since they have all that battery power saving stuff to deal with)

But, in regards to the power button not doing anything, my computer had the same issue for a while. Sort of like me when getting up in the morning, once I've been "off" I don't like to turn back "on" either. ;-) Once shut down the power button wouldn't do anything so I would have to pull the power cord for a few moments, plug it back in, and then it would start up just fine. Updating the BIOS to the latest version (did this about a month ago) fixed this issue for me.

My mother board is a SuperMicro P4STA (Intel 850 chipset).

Sounds like a dirty set of teeth on one of the cards, which is probably what was wrong with the first one, pulling the cards and reseating them fixed it. On this one when you pull them and the memeory, clean them with a pencil eraser. Should fix it.

Well I can tell enough that it's not a power issue this time.. I've done all that was suggested and more and it's not the power supply. I did pull each card and ram to no effect ( did not clean with eraser, I will try that thank you Dnarl ) and I even disconnected each CD, DVD, Floppy and even Hard drives one at a time with no effect as well.

Hopefully your suggestion will be the simple fix Dnarl.

Ok.. you've tried another power supply already i hope...so if it still isnt starting up try putting a different fan on your proc heatsink...if the old one isnt any good the motherboard can sense this & wont allow your pc to power up so as the proc wont burn up.
