After a few days of hearing an ominous but intermittent noise from my computer (and telling myself it was just a fan), last night it got worse so I shut it down. It's not like I was ignoring it - the person who does all my computer work can't look at it until 5:00 tonight - but when I booted up this morning to see if maybe it had healed overnight, the DOS text that appears before the actual boot said "Boot sector not read. Partition sector not read." But then it booted anyway. Needless to say I shut it down immediately. I think this is probably a very very bad sign. If you don't see me in game for a few days, you'll know why. |

Sounds like a hard drive tryin to go north on ya. If that happens again upon restart im afraid you might have to go in with a boot disk & try to delete ur partitions, reformat the drive, & hope ur drive aint a gonner. If ur drive is a Western Digital they have a free DL of analization program to tell u if ur drive is bad. Thers also another HD maker site that has a free DL prog that lets u repair the drive if its possible & it all fits on a floppy. Tryin to remember whose site it was. Ill check my floppy & get back to ya on it. Nm just checked my floppy & it's from IBM's site. Also that noise u hearin may be just that ur fans & heatsink are clogged with dust & it's causing ur porc or something else to overheat. Hope this helps some. |

All input helps! At this point the person who does my computer work is bringing a new hard drive over tonight with the hopes that it can be installed and then the data from my old hard drive just copied over, unless it's already fried. *crossing fingers* |
