Wayfarers of Veeshan

I took it apart and found a few fans had failed. In order to install windows XP I always have to put 2000 on first then upgrade it with XP. Something about my dinosaur hardrives or something. Help desk at microsoft couldnt figure it out either.

Seems like a few of the built in features on the board have gone belly up. Like the built in promise card and the ethernet. I had to disable them. Computer doesnt work well but it works for now till i can replace it.

You have my sympathies. You've already done so much more on your own than I could manage. I really wish I knew more about hardware.

Apparently on the needing 2000, you used an upgrade version of XP.

I did the same thing and if I ever want to format and start over I need to purchase a full blown copy of XP to install.

Fans failing can cause a bunch of problems.

I do have full blown copy of XP but i just cant install it directly. Cant figure it out for the life of me.

UPdate on the evil A'puter



Our Cable company found that we kept dropping off the grid so they came out and checked and found that the former installer of our cable modem linked it through a splitter that was ment for the sat dish of which the house was built and wired to handle either/or. So thats why we kept dropping off the internet.

Problem two comes where some of the onboard features of the motherboard have been failing. It would take several tries to start up kinda like my old oldsmobile just to even get past the onboard promise card.

Eventually 1 of my 200 gig hard drives failed completely because of this problem and the other lost a ton of data and that was the final straw. I am now rebuilding it from scratch.

Yes i can probably make my life easier and get a prefab but where is the fun in that. And most techs dont understand why i have to have 400 gigs worth of H/D in my system. Of course most people dont keep their entire music collection on their PC..... im just sayin..........

It's getting there. Slowly but surely....... one good thing about no PC and no EQ, i gotta nice tan outta the deal lol.
