Wayfarers of Veeshan

It seems to me that few people these days hunt in dungeons for XP anymore -- even with the XP bonus. Dungeons have better rewards that hunting outdoors but are less popular.


Why is this? (some possibilities)

o Safety (not dying). Dungeons are FAR more dangerous.

o Potentially difficult corpse recovery. Having to fight your way back into an area you died earlier without much of your equipment can be a adventure in itself.

o Difficulty of convincing a high-level PC to perform an XP-restoring resurrection when your corpse is in an out-of-the-way, for them, dungeon.

o Some classes might feel less effective indoors; Druids in particular.

o Finding or forming a pick-up group interested in the same destination can be extremely difficult. Seems that people follow a formula for levelling up by hunting exclusively in the zone for their level. South Karana (Aviak Village), Highkeep basement (indoor but guards, bank and merchant nearby), Dreadlands (outside Karnor's Castle), etc. are common examples.


Why go into such a miserable place when I can safely level outdoors?

o More exciting due to higher level of danger; especially with the reduced death penalties and better gear that your elders were accustomed to. If you are playing this game just to level up you are missing half of the experience; might as well play NeverQuest (?) the non-interactive EQ simulator.

o Better loot. It seems people prefer to farm cash and just buy the items they want from the bazaar instead of hunting for it themselves. This makes sense, from an effort/time point of view, but reduces items to souless stats by losing the stories on how they were acquired.

o No waiting on spawn; assuming that you explore the dungeon instead of just camping a specific room.


OK, enough ranting on my part. My point is that I want to explore some dungeons, preferably in an XP group, but have a difficult (if not impossible) time finding or forming a group to do so. I try to maintain the spread out my character stable so I have at least one character for each level range (1-10, 11-20, 21-30, etc.), specifically to make it easier to find groups, so I am ready for just about anything.

Is anyone interested in exploring dungeons anymore or are we all just on the XP treadmill so we can reach level 65 and retire?

I LOVE dungeons. Nothing is more fun than starting at the entrance and gradually fighting your way in. LDoN should make this even more fun. Send me a tell anytime you wanna get a dungeon group going.

i've always found your comments to be true of dungeons, and like zbik said, the LDoN expansion should really turn this around.

We have recently been getting back into the dungeon crawls. This week I spent longs hours in Howling Stones and Veksar. In both Cases we had lots of fun, got good XP, Had lots of fun, Several nice drops, had lots of fun & had nice $$$ Splits when done. They were both very fun as well.

Howling Stones has been long over due for us. If anyone is interested in geting keys to the zone then see me sometime. Perhaps another Xalgoz raid is in order.
