I've said this before, but I'll say it again:

You don't actually need to be killing the spiders in velks for the threads. Most of the time people just leave them to rot so all you need to do is go when the entire first floor is camped (and it usually is) and let the groups know you are looking for threads. Most of the time they will just let you take them. I got my 75 in about 3 hours at level 41 without ever touching a spider. If you have invis & see invis then you could even be brave and go loot on the higher levels too. Velks is surprisingly safe to wander around.

Also, there is a way to tell which wurms have the biles. You need some sort of special lighting in the game on, but the wurms with the biles actually glow (since it's a glowing worm bile). Kahmon helped me get all 5 in a matter of an hour's worth of time (we went several times for about 5 minutes each to see if any wurms up had the bile). The wurms with the biles are rare, but easy to detect if you know what to look for and have that special lighting mode on.
