I'll try to make this clear as possible from my experience:
1. Track distance varies (there's gotta be a formula, Drexx, but they make my head hurt), and usually Ranger track is best for distance.
2.Ranger track is usually best outdoors.
3. Empty space mobs aren't always mobs - they're bugs sometimes.
4. Must have See Invis up for Invis'd mobs/players to be seen on track.
5. "Normal" track sort only sorts by oldest mob WITHIN range. "Distance" sorts by distance in range.
6. In a dungeon setting, especially 3 dimensional zones, is a major pain. Dungeons are usually smaller in width and breadth, so one can see the whole zone. Adding verticality to this just .. really screws up the mechanics of track.
7. To answer your question, you may wish you find a couple of spots in Dalnir's which are distant (and safe to move to, easily) and check track from those different spots.
