Thank a vet and fly the flag proudly! Seems like most of the vets from WWII I knew are gone now. There are still lots from Vietnam around. We have plenty fighting for us in Iraq and Afghanistan now. /salute.

my family ( but not me ) have been U.S.M.C as far back as we go, i dont go one day without thinking about all that i have and can do thanks to them

I reread what I typed. I don't mean just the vets who saw service in war. This day is to remember all who serve/served our country. I never served. My father was in the army between korea and vietnam. One uncle was in the battle of the bulge and another served on the uss columbia in the pacific.

Every male in my family has served at one time or another, usually during a war. Thank you to all.

Our daughter was asked to write a poem for Memorial Day for school. She is in the 1st grade.

In the yard we have a flag,
The stripes are very true,
We fly the flag every day,
It is red, white, and blue.

We take it down when it rains,
And honor what it means,
We keep the flag safe from harm,
To cherish our hopes and dreams.

That's a beautiful poem, Honey. You can tell it meant something to your daughter to write that.

I just saw a bumper sticker that I really really like:

"Some heroes wear a cape,
my heroes wear kevlar."

Amen to that, and thanks to all that have served and are serving. You are my heroes.

That is a very pretty poem and from one so young...you are teaching her well...and Thanks to all that serve/served, fought and those that paid the ultimate price for our "FREEDOM" /salute
