After what seemed like months of hoarding I was finally able to accumulate 2Kpp -- and that was a significant milestone for me. I frequently see items in the bazaar selling for 10's if not 100's of Kpp. How do people generate so much income? I know how Haggle Baron Quatree does it  but how do others do it without resorting to becoming (caster) crack dealers in PoK or spend many boring hours farming greenies? Please share your secrets without asking me to buy your book on eBay.

Signed,
Confused :?

ps. I just went shopping last night to outfit myself with resist gear. After spending a little over 1Kpp I can now assemble an unbuffed resist ensemble of over 100 in cold, fire, magic and disease. Is poison important too?

This is one of those things I've been trying to figure out myself for 2 years now. The most I've ever had at one time was 10k, and that was generous donations from a number of friends to buy a riding leezard for my 20 something wizard.

Beyond that, 2 to 2.5k has always been my limit, and I've gotten that by farming for leather padding. Like you I've never figured out how someone can afford 100k for an item, and figure anything worth that much I won't be selling since I'll need it.

One thing I have seen people do is trade in the Bazaar. Oh, not farming and selling, but actual trading, buying low, selling high, etc. Not being a stock broker I'm afraid that just doesn't interest me, anymore than spending the next year farming greens.

I'd love some hints on how to actually earn platinum, since I currently have a little over 400pp total, which is quite a bit shy of what I'll need to finish epic quests, buy resist gear, etc.

My highest bank total was around 15000pp, and tends to fluctuate from 12 to 13k depending on what's going on and what I'm buying. Now, this is a 49th level bard, so it's obviously something that anyone can do without having to visit the best of places and get the best of loot to sell.

The secret is : Buy low, Sell high

What am I buying? I'm buying things that people want and then reselling them in the bazaar. There are a lot of things that can be purchased quite cheaply and then sold for a good profit if you're patient and do a little vendor shopping.

What sells best are the items to tradeskills with. Especially those items that make higher end gear (PoP items sell quite well sometimes). This is NOT a sure fire plan to make money, however, it is possible.

Know what a good deal is and then capitilize on it. Example: I once found 60+ Nightmare Arachnid Silks on a vendor (!!) which I purchased for about a plat a piece (IIRC). I was then able to sell those silks for 5500pp, all to one person. Not a bad profit on a small investment. Even at 10pp per, I was still far far ahead. A couple of deals like that, and you can't help but make a little extra cash.

The other side of that is ... if you're finding something that you know you will want to use for a higher end tradeskill, hang onto it. Dont count on it being available on the market later. These things come and go strangely sometimes. If you do see A Drop of Rain on a vendor ... grab it, buy it, send a shout to the guild, so someone can if you dont have the cash.

Research what's selling in the bazaar and be patient.

Also, if you have too much money on your hands and don't mind disregarding the EULA, you can check out playerauctions.com. You can get 10k for about $30. What better way to blow a paycheck than to make yourself rich in EQ. ;-)

for us with no Skills, tradeskill item selling can be a good way to go. But know the trends. A while back I actually made 35kpp in about 2 weeks ... how?

I learned that Velium Mastodon and Velium Hound furs from Western Wastes sold for like 600pp each... so I went there and farmed furs for quite some time. Previous to this I had never had more than about 6kpp, and I only had that because I buy Nothing hehe. I do buy some things now, find something that is for a tradeskill and selling like lightening, then figure out how to get it and market it. Quickest / easiest way to make money and exp.

I know for me all through soloing as a mage. I would hunt in OOT (not very good to me anymore but was in the kunark era days). They dropped gems on average about every 10th kill or so. Each gem sold from between 45-95pp, that added up to alot of money. Then there are the guards of different cities :)...but they way most people end up with there money is through the win of a roll on something very very rare. I parted with my manastone (and sometimes I wish I hadnt just so I could say I had it still). Tradeskills are a huge influx in income if you have patience and watch the market for what people are buying. I use to make the research mage spells for people. The new zones if you hit them early make yo uthe most money though. If you get a nice drop that might be a touch better than what you are using you can generally charge quite a bit more during the first week or so. and make a ton of cash.

Here are a few ways to get the big $$$$

Sell a great item.

Farm something easy to get that has lots of uses. i.e. Spider Silk

Subcombines! Making something using a tradeskill that has a use in another. i.e. Tempers, leather padding.

Vendor mining! Find stuff on vendors that should not be there and turn around and sell at a profit.

Tradeskills. Know what is popular and make lots of it. i.e. Solstice earring parts

Even tho I've never had more than 13k total, I once discovered that farming velium in velius zones showed quite profitable. I would go to Crystal Caverns, do "CAMP CHECK" to see if geos were available (or just camo up and run there to see for myself. so noone else would get the idea of camping them before me;)) If they were free I'd go kill geos, get chipped gems that sell from all between 5sp to 195pp. If not I'd just stay with Ry'gorr miners/watchmen etc and farm the velium and not too bad cash/drops they had.
Another thing was spider silks from the karana zones. There was a really nice spot in EK I think it was where you could get several stacks in a night.
Other times I'd go to gfay and forage morning dew. And while foraging you could shout that you wanted to buy them for a smaller amount than they go for in bazaar (some ppl dont have luclin still so they were happy to get rid of them) and since they sold for 75'ish pp in bazaar 10pp would be a good deal for me.
Lastly there is the guards/nobles in highkeep. The guards drop an average of 5-6pp per kill and a fine steel sword. But there are faction hits on them, and they are very popular and overcamped.
I also heard of ppl going to Jaggedpine Forest and farming basilisk eggs, but I dont know if they are worth much nowadays.
Just my input :)

If there's a sure fire way to make money, it's gotta be this: LOOT MORE. Spending a day somewhere like KC, solB, guk, or anywhere that fine steel/velium weapons drop and actually looting once in a while will get you atleast 100-200 plat a day. After ten days, you have 1K plat, and that's just on trash loot and plat, that doesn't even include the lucky rolls you'll get when something rare drops.

I've also recently discovered the grimling forest bandits. I have no idea what lvl they are, but they drop a TON of fine steel weapons, and sometimes they drop fine steel breastplates. There's even a vendor and a bank in zone so you don't have to go far to cash in and convert your coins.

If you do decide to go here and kill bandits, just an FYI, part of the beastlord epic is in this zone. It is a really rare drop off of a really rare mob that sometimes spawns in place of the bandits. The copper medal of war is no longer attainable by completing the mini ring events in that zone, and I'm sure any beastlord would be VERY grateful if you happened to turn up a medal and let one of them know it was rotting in grimling.

For me, I have been a trader since the North Freeport days, buying low and selling high. You'd be amazed at the money you can make doing this.

I think twice I had some substantial amount of money. I found two stacks of Inky Secreations on a vendor, bought them for about a k, and resold them for 12k (Which went to pay off debts) :) Then, I just got an Ornate Bracer Mold, which seems to be flying around the fact that I can sell it for 40k, so, that will be my highest amount ever. Go exp, go to gear drops, roll and win :)

Thanks for all of the input. The consensus seems to be that selling to other players, especially crafters, is the key to wealth. Raw materials for tradeskills that can farmed or mined from merchants appear to be the commodity of choice.

I have the time (feels like I am always LFG and find it hard to solo for XP  ) to farm and mine merchants but expect to have a difficult time selling the items I collect. Why not just go into /trader mode in the bazaar when not playing you might ask? I use a <shudder> dial-up modem.

What I need is a broker, reseller or retailer. Someone who can go sell items for me on consignment or purchase them from me at wholesale prices. I would glady pay a commission of 10% to 20% of the sale price of an item sold on consignment or accept 70% to 80% of the expected sale price to sell it immediately to a retailer.

Is anyone offering those types of services?

When can I find a list of items that are high in demand with decent profit margins? EQTraders maybe?

Thanks in advance for your help (once again)!

ps. The primary reason I want to accumulate a little wealth is to be able to upgrade my resist gear for the high-end game -- should I ever make it that far -- just so I will be eligible to participate by meeting the minimum resist requirements. At level 59, I intend to spend AA points to acquire a Holy Steed, the fastest mount in the game (next to the Shadowknight's).

Aside from the "make your own cash" arguments, I offer the following view...

Sizable in-game wealth is now, and will continue to be, accumulated and re-distributed by real-world companies and individuals who seize on two facts:

1) Players who want out of the game can make real-world cash by selling their in-game platinum before selling/deleting their characters
2) Players who want instant platinum will pay real world money for it.

Case in point:

http://www.ige.com/sell_plat.asp

http://www.mysupersales.com/search.asp?server=62

http://www.playerauctions.com/listings/ ... 1060627807

http://www.playerauctions.com/listings/ ... 1060640913

In my case, time is money. I don't have 10 hours a day to play EQ, but if it meant enough to me, I could come up with $200 cash for a quick 100k pp. Ask yourself...if it takes 100 hours to come up with 100k pp in game, isn't it just better to spend $200 (a mere $2/hour...anyone's time is worth more than that) to just buy it outright? If you just want the cash, and don't think there is any worth in making it yourself, this is one solution.
